Lipless rattle bait

A flat-sided, rattle-packed body with no lip at all. Real lipless baits get their vibration from body shape; the Tank only models action that comes from a lip, so it scores this one as having none. That is a limit of the model, not a verdict on the lure type.

The shape

What is a lipless rattle?

A lipless rattle bait has no diving lip; its body and retrieve create the action. The Tank only generates wobble from lip drag, so this build is a documented model limit and is not ranked against lipped baits in fish scenarios.

The Tank test

What the model actually measures

The grid uses 1 cm cells. The Tank computes displaced water, centre of mass, lip force, tracking stability and wobble at its default retrieve speed. It does not predict a running depth or a catch rate. See the equations and limits.

Cedar body, two rattle chambers, lead along the belly, tie on the back. No lip.

Tank verdict: No lip action

No lip, so no swimming action. This is a sinking or floating body that will only do what the rod tip tells it to.

  • Add a lip to make it dive and wobble.
  • 2 rattle chambers: adds an acoustic signature the lateral line reads before the eyes do.

Compare with the no-lip control

Both designs run through the same Tank model at its default retrieve speed. These figures describe the block builds shown here, not commercial lures.

Not ranked in the fish scenarios

Its action comes from body shape, which the Tank does not model: it only scores wobble from lip drag, so it reads this bait as having no action. The fish model is never shown a fair version of it, so it is listed here and not ranked. Read where the model is wrong.
